2015 Resolution

So I took a little break from blogging...OK so it has been two years. But I have still been dabbling in art, and for my New Year resolution,  I plan to get this blog updated to showcase my artwork, art journals, my Documented Life Project 2015, my Life Book 2015, maybe some tutorials and videos, and odds and ends of art life.

So just for today I am posting an art journal page I did recently. They are watercolor poppies. I used a Donna Downey stencil, my small Dylusions journal, and basic inexpensive watercolors to create this. I did not prime the page as the paper in the Dylusions journal is lovely.

Shabby Chic Copic Marker Storage Unit

Hello Everyone!

I'm excited to share with you a video of a project I recently made for a friend of mine who was looking for an elegant way to store her Copic Markers. I did some searching and I came up with the following.

It's a beautiful way to store your Copic Markers or art supplies, or anything really. When I saw these containers at Ikea they made me think of Lace Doilies and they were so shabby chic. I knew I had to make the Copic storage unit for my friend out of them.

The video is also a Tutorial so if you want to make your own shabby chic storage unit just check out my video. It's so easy. There's no drilling holes, no glue, and the whole project cost me less than $20!

Angel Ragdoll and Dottee Dolls

I'm making some angel rag dolls for some of my friends. I think they are totally adorable! What do you think? This is the first one I made and she is traveling all the way up to Canada. She's excited to meet her new owner and ready to share loads of love!

Here are some Dottee dolls I made for a swap on swap bot. My partner loved bright colors so these were made in her style. This was my first time ever making a Dottee doll and it was quite fun. I wish I had more time for sewing swaps but since I'm not an expert with the sewing machine I have to do a lot of the work by hand.

I have a lot of mail art that I need to get caught up on. So I will be working on some mail art envie projects in the coming weeks. Time has been limited as my baby boy Dezzy is now almost one year old! This means I spend most of my time chasing the little guy around the apartment. We play and sing and crawl around and laugh.... I love it. I don't have as much time for art at the moment but it's OK. My baby will grow up so fast and I want to spend as much time as I can enjoying him right now. There will be plenty of time for art when he is a teenager and wants nothing to do with me.  :)

Well have a great week everyone! And be careful .... April Fools is coming!!

My Mixed Media Whimsical Fairy Canvas

Here's a photo of a mixed media canvas I painted for a gift for my Febuary Secret Sister over at Jadedstudios Secret Squirrel Sisterhood. This canvas took me over two weeks with layers drying on a daily basis. I had so much fun creating this and plan to create some more in the future.

I poured the resin pieces that embellish the canvas - the corners and the flower in her hair. The wings are layered with organza fabric, stamped with beautiful wing pattern then adorned with iridescent mica flakes. The dress has stenciled stars that I created with modeling paste and then layered with lace fabric. Then I used liquid pearls on her bodice and umbrella. I hope my partner loves it as much as I do!

My Altered Box Project for JadedStudios Secret Squirrel Cigar Box Swap

Hey there!

Here is a quick video of the box I altered for a Secret Sister group I am in over at JadedStudios. I had a great time altering this box and it went out to my partner today. :)

I need to get back into the groove of writing letters. Life has been busy and I've been slacking with mail art and letter writing a bit...so my goal for the next two weeks is to get caught up and respond to all the letters that need responses.  :)

My first "official" crafty YouTube video!

I did it! I conquered my fear of going on camera to record this video showcasing the writing desk box I altered for the Secret Valentine's Day Altered Box Swap over on Life on the Scrap Beach. I love how this box came out. It was my first altered box project.

I used the Mariposa paper line by DCWV as my partner wanted her box red, white and black and I immediately thought of this paper. I just love butterflies and I hope she does too. The roses are all from I Am Roses and I colored them with Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst Sprays, then I used some prima bling and flatback pearls and lace trim.
I am shipping this out tomorrow so I can't wait till my partner gets it. Yay!

Valentine's Day-ish Mail art

I'm not sure what's come over me but I've been making lovey Valentine's day mail art recently. With some old fashioned collage images, embossing the envelopes, and using glimmery sprays to make it all sparkle. I'm loving it.  :)

Jan 2012 Mail Art

I'm working on a few other projects that I will post once they are done. One is a writing box for an Valentine's Day altered box swap that is almost finished now, and the other is a Travelogue for Your Paper Pantry which is a mini album that will be going to 9 partners to share and travel and be decorated. I'm excited for this. Just need to finish my pages and off it wil go. I wil post photos when these goodies are done...and I really need to get brave and do my first you tube video! I'm shy and a little scared, but I will....eventually I will.  :)

Flowers in the Mail-Art

So today I was in the mood to make some flowers...and what's better than sending some mail art flowers? I made these big bouquets today and will be sending them in the mail tomorrow to some fellow mail artist pals of mine. I hope they do not get destroyed in the post office. I am taking them in by hand tomorrow to have them hand cancelled, but you never know with those machines. Hopefully they will make it OK.

flowery mail art with a paper doll that's going in one of the envelopes as a little surprise treat that my mail art partner is getting. I hope she likes paper dolls! I like using them in my art projects.
